Research Area:
Prof. Dr. Sofie Goormachtig obtained her PhD in Biotechnology in 1997. After a post-doctoral stay at the ETH in Zürich (Prof. I. Potrykus), she became a post-doctoral fellow of the National Fund of Scientific Research (Belgium) at the laboratory of Molecular Genetics (Ghent University, Belgium). Since September 2005, she is a Professor at Ghent University. Together with Prof. M. Holsters, she is heading a research team that investigates the signalling events that control the early steps of the nodule formation, especially during water tolerant nodulation as well as the mechanisms by which nodule senescence is regulated.
