Research Area: Dr. Norzulaani Khalid graduated from the University of Malaya with a BSc. She pursued post- graduate studies in the University of Nottingham UK through a scholarship under the Academic Training Scheme for Bumiputras in 1985. She obtained her Doctorate in 1989. Dr Khalid was appointed lecturer in 1991. Since her appointment she has received numerous grants and awards from both national and international boards. For her first sabbatical leave to the USA, her sponsorship was under the Islamic Development Bank Merit Award Scholarship. She was a Visiting Fellow at the Boyce Thompson Institute, Cornell University, USA where she was trained in plant transformation. In 2003 she received a Fellowship from the International Atomic Energy Agency for her second sabbatical leave to work in the John Innes Institute, Norwich,UK focusing on Plant Molecular Biology. Currently Dr Khalid heads the Plant Biotechnology Incubator Unit under the Centre of Biotechnology for Agriculture, a unit heavily engaged in Plant Biotechnology research. She is also actively involved in outreach programmes involving farmers, teachers and school children. Besides receiving grants from the Ministry of Science and Innovation and the University of Malaya, the research in this unit is also sponsored by Equator Biotech. Sdn Bhd. and Yayasan Felda. This unit has many international links and has received grants from the International Atomic Energy Agency and the British Council. An active researcher, Dr Norzulaani Khalid has commercialised her research products and patented the technologies developed in her research.
